I was rather shocked to see Cesc Fabregas, the Arsenal midfielder at Downing Street earlier this week at a reception in honour of the visiting Spanish Prime Minister Rodriguez Zapatero. Fabregas was not only a guest he appeared to be the guest of honour at the event eventhough he has spent the last six months saying that he wants to return to his native Barcelona and leave the London club! Surely someone who wants to stay in London could have been found because afterall it was an event attended by two Prime Ministers (Cameron and Zapatero). Perhaps, it was Fabregas farewell event! I think the majority of Arsenal fans are now resigned to the fact that Fabregas will leave the club and head home. But I think his behaviour has been terrible especially because I believe that Arsenal manager Arsene Wegner has made him the world-class player he is today. When he arrived at Arsenal he was an unknown but he will go super-star. The fact that he now appears to be on strike because his transfer appears to be on hold has made the matter even worse. I sometimes feel that footballers lack the necessary loyalty to their clubs. Fabregas says he wants to leave Arsenal because the club has failed to land any silverware recently. Judging by Fabregas performance last season he has not helped matters. So perhaps next time Downing Street hosts a reception they could find someone more appropriate, even Fernando Torres, who at least wants to stay at Chelsea.
