IT is rather unfortunate that open war appears to have broken out amongst business owners in some of Calvia´s principal resorts. Unfortunately, they are all chasing fewer tourists with less spending powers. Sins, which were overlooked in the past, have been brought to the forefront with the words illegal competition on everyone´s lips. The bottom line is that the laws are there to be respected and not overlooked. I can understand that many business owners are feeling the pinch and are very concerned, but the best way forward to avoid any problem is to abide by the law. If doors have to be closed at a certain time, then they should be. Ticket touts have been outlawed in Calvia which has been a controversial move but is backed by a large number of residents and tourists. The Calvia council has to enforce the law because rules are not there to be broken. However, what is needed at this moment is unity rather than splits between the various fronts. If all the businesses work together I am sure that problems can be resolved. Yes, it is going to be an exceptionally difficult summer and yes people are quite rightly nervous. Magalluf, Palmanova, Santa Ponsa and Paguera need to stand firm and together.
