They just could not let it slip, the Spanish media that is.
At a time while the Spanish royal family is having its very own annus horribilis, some of the television channels just couldn't resist taking a swipe at the British royal family during yesterday's early morning breakfast bulletins.
With popularity for the royals at an all time high in the United Kingdom and across much of the Commonwealth, here in Spain, the royals are not fairing too well in the popularity stakes for a number of reasons and, with Spain being more a republic at heart, winning back the public support is going to be a tough task.
So, in the midst of all their troubles and while Queen Elizabeth and country, even here in Majorca, is celebrating, Spanish TV had to pick up on the fact that out of the million plus people lining the banks of the Thames on Sunday, there were 200 republicans with John Sergeant near Westminster Bridge.
On one channel it was touch and go to work out if the news was that the Queen has been on the throne for 60 years and the majority of the country love, admire or respect the Monarchy or the fact that 200 people turned out to stage a limp and largely ignored damp protest.
Perhaps the news teams should have been sent to Gibraltar to show Spaniards how the British are for the most part united in their pride of having a Monarchy.
