It is ironic that Spain is calling for a new euro zone fiscal authority to oversee the finances of the twenty six diverse countries of the European Union, when it is not capable of overseeing the finances of it's own fifteen provinces, which share a common language and culture. The real power lies where the finances are controlled. God forbid that it should be from Brussels, where they can't even get their own accounts through annual audits. There is an expression which covers this situation. It is called passing the buck, while using Gibraltar as a diversion. As residents here we hope that the Spanish people will realise the gravity of the situation and work their way back into credit. It will be a long hard grind, but the politicians are letting the people down by not getting the message through to them. Pity we don't have a Churchillian figure to rally the workers.
