THE GULF WAR IS JUST AND LEGAL

Dear Sir, Your political writer Ray Fleming writes as if what he states is fact.
In his article of March 21 he states “...despite serious doubts about its legality......” I do not know where Ray Fleming received his legal qualifications but the Attorney General of the United Kingdom has a different opinion.
Ray Fleming also states “...reluctant reservations among the public at home.” The public's elected representatives in Parliament cast their votes last Tuesday evening. Ray Fleming also states “...this unnecessary and unjust war....” This is his opinion to which he is entitled. However, his opinion is no better than anybody else's.
I suggest that the Prime Ministers of the United Kingdom and Spain and the President of the United States of America are in possession of much better information than any of us to make this judgement.

Dear Sir, With regard to Mr. Mike Kernahan's very brief and biased summary of the present situation in Iraq, Daily Bulletin letters.
We would like to refer Mr. Kernahan and his friend Mr. George to the famous quote (if the level of Mr. Bush's common knowledge allows).
You can fool some of the people all of the time, all the people some of the time, but you can't fool all the people all of the time.
People worldwide are no longer making judgements based totally on the facts be they true or false but which are inevitably manipulated to the benefit of the person employing them but are relying on common sense, logic and compassion with the results that whilst nobody in their right mind would support Saddam Hussein, their hearts go out to the Iraqi people. What they are saying Mr. Kernahan and Mr. Bush is “Let he who is without sin cast the first stone.” No to the war.

Dear Sir, I really enjoy reading you paper everyday on the website (www.majorcadailybulletin.es) especially the letters column. The reason I enjoy the letters is because it is very interesting to read peoples' views of the island after holidays etc. I also accept expats out there on their views of the ongoing Gulf War but at the same time I feel that people are not writing in because for the last few weeks all the letters have been about the war. So come on folks let's get writing again about this beautiful island (the ups and the downs) and most important to us all to look forward to this year's holiday on Majorca where we can get away for a week or two to relax and forget the goings on elsewhere in the world, that is of course still sparing thoughts of support for the troops out there.

(Editor's note. Thank you Mr. Lamb but I must say that all letters are welcome on whatever subject).
Thanks for the facts on voting
Dear Sir, After the allegations by opposition PP candidate for Calvia of “vote blocking” for foreign (EU) residents for the forthcoming elections, it was good to see the article (last Saturday) in the Bulletin where Calvia's mayor, Margarita Najera, emphatically denied this allegation that had finally reached a European MP. That, and on the next page, an advertisement by the Calvia authority clarifying what foreign voters should do to qualify for voting puts the cherry on the cake to nullify these obviously false allegations. Anyone with a strand of intelligence will realise that come elections, slurs, inuendos, outright lies and empty promises, can unfortunately be recklessly thrown about and should be taken for what they are. Voters should remember that local elections are more about the individuals standing for council posts, rather than political party, and if in your area it has proven to work, then remember the old saying -“if it works, don't try to fix it”.
