Dear Sir,
So England are out of the World Cup. Hallelujah! Perhaps, now, we will hear no more nonsense of knighthoods and the like. All this surfacing after one win against an Argentinian team whose superiority in the competition was grossly overrated. Where was it all going to end? Honorary knighthoods for the Senegalese, S. Korean and Japanese teams, for their achievements were far more laudable than England's. As a Scot, I am happy to leave myself open to the brickbats heading in my direction, but at least I can say that all my countrymen are living on the same planet.
Better luck next time, England, but you can still carry on reminding us about your 1966 win for another four years. Perish the thought.
