Dear Sir, while it may have been difficult to find a taxi in Palma this summer, there have always been a few hundred or so parked up at the airport hoping for a fare to somewhere further than Palma.
Woe betide any passenger bold enough to ask to be taken to Can Pastilla, Playa de Palma, (or even Arenal for the correct fare of 1749 ptas) by a taxi driver who's been waiting for a couple of hours to get to the front of the rank!
Passengers arriving at Palma have a very limited choice.
They can either pay the taxi fare (official prices to Pto Pollensa 7900, Cala Millor 8'400, Cala D'or 7'700) or take the no 17 bus to Palma.
This bus used to pass through Can Pastilla which was handy for anyone wanting to go there, or to Playa de Palma or Arenal.
It has since been re-routed and now goes along the motorway until Coll D'en Rabassa.
It's high time the airport had a decent public transport service, given the ever increasing number of economy flights which are used by those not on a package holiday and therefore not going by coach to their destination.
At the very least there should be a regular service on the route through Can Pastilla, Playa de Palma, and Arenal.
At Tenerife South Airport (with far less passengers than San Sant Juan) there are public buses outside to all parts of the island, as well as taxis for those who prefer to go in comfort, or not to have to wait.
