Dear Sir,
As a visitor to this island for the first time, I was interested to read the article by Humphrey Carter on Crisis talks to boost bookings. In my opinion the reasons for the decline are simply that both Greece and Turkey offer the same weather, better beaches but at a much lower price. You should be asking whether your hotels and restaurants are not pricing the industry out of the market.

SAN CALIU SUMMER FESTIVAL
Dear Sir,
The summer festival of San Juan takes place each year on the 23rd, 24th and 25th of June. The whole of Spain and the islands of the Balearics and Canaries celebrate this festival in different ways. It is a night to drive out witches, for fireworks, a celebration of workmanship and to remember departed members of the family. But mainly it's an opportunity for every Juan (excuse the pun) to have a good time. This year the association of the neighbours of Son Caliu with the help of Calvia council are staging events throughout the weekend to which we extend a warm invitation to everyone to join in. On the Friday evening the fun will start with a performance of dancers in the Calle Malaga behind Mercadonna supermarket at 20.30. Three different groups will perform there. On the beach of Son Caliu you can enjoy music, dancing and a bar-b-que. You can bring your own food or purchase it from the bars on the beach. There is a magic show too! At approximately midnight you can witness or take part in a small procession from appts. Olivia; The women traditionally walk to the beach to put coronas of flowers in the water and to bathe for Good luck (baños de la suerte).
On Saturday the fun continues with children's activities at 10.00am in the children's play area. Nova Son Caliu, at 16.00 is football competition for infants, juveniles, and married v single men. Lots of other events including a disco, karaoke and the music group Tango' will be performing through-out the day and evening. Once again, I invite you all to watch or participate in this event.
Thanks to the editor for allowing us the opportunity to inform.
