Blasson Property is set to develop a luxury hotel on the site of the former casino in Calvia, following the purchase of the adjacent beach club and land. According to Expansión, the total investment is estimated at €175 million, covering both purchase and construction costs.
Market sources quoted by the economic outlet indicate that just over €40 million of the total relates to the acquisition of land previously owned by a German group, with the remainder earmarked for hotel development and complex refurbishment. This project marks the revival of an asset unused since 2011, when the casino operations moved to Palma.
Located near the residential area of Sol de Mallorca in south-west Calvia, the planned property will offer around 100 rooms and is expected to incorporate a wellness centre on an adjacent plot, alongside the restoration of the funicular. The region is known for its high-end real estate and luxury tourism appeal.
Mallorca has drawn several international luxury operators such as Four Seasons in Formentor, Belmond La Residencia and St. Regis in recent years. Blasson is reportedly in discussions with brands including One&Only, Six Senses, Rosewood and Banyan Tree for managing the new hotel.
Blasson anticipates starting construction in 2027, with a tentative hotel opening scheduled between 2029 and 2030, assuming the timeline holds. This venture strengthens Calvia's status as a dynamic Mediterranean destination in the premium market segment.
Furthermore, the company maintains a robust presence in the Balearics, having launched the Kimpton Aysla Mallorca hotel in 2022 and preparing to open the Mandarin Oriental Punta Negra in June. Recently, it also acquired Hotel Corso in Ibiza, set for refurbishment under Marriott’s Autograph Collection brand and to house the Lío nightclub.
