Gabriel Escarrer, CEO and chairman of Meliá Hotels International, has been named among the top 10 most influential leaders in the global travel industry according to the Social Media Pulse 2026 ranking by Favikon. The Mallorcan businessman is highlighted as one of the foremost voices shaping international tourism on professional social media platforms.

Favikon's study employs an artificial intelligence-driven algorithm that analyses millions of profiles across LinkedIn, Instagram and TikTok. The system evaluates factors such as reach, credibility, engagement, growth and content authenticity. Since introducing the Authenticity Score, Favikon prioritises content creators who deliver original, valuable material while downranking less genuine formats.

Escarrer’s inclusion on this list reflects his ongoing participation in strategic discussions across the tourism sector worldwide. He shares recognition with notable executives such as John Pagano, CEO of Red Sea Global; Anthony Capuano, president and CEO of Marriott International; Satya Anand, president of Marriott International; Saud Bin Sultan AlSaud, associated with Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Tourism; and David Marriott, chairman of Marriott International.

Dual acknowledgement for leadership and management

Alongside this digital influence accolade, Gabriel Escarrer has also been ranked among the top ten business leaders in Spain, according to the 2026 report by Advice Strategic Consultants. This recognition assesses his strategic vision, managerial skills, and role in bolstering Meliá Hotels International’s global position within the travel market.

The convergence of these two honours underscores Escarrer’s significance both in the digital realm and traditional corporate leadership, affirming his role at a pivotal moment for the international tourism industry.
