Several people have been trapped in a lift due to a fire that broke out in one of the blocks at the Club Bellevue complex in Puerto Alcudia.
According to sources from the Mallorca Fire Brigade, the fire started in the machine room and firefighters are rescuing the victims, while a hundred people remain on the balconies in a Leda block for safety reasons.
Firefighters from Alcudia, Inca and Arta are participating in the operation. The incident occurred at around 9.30am, when smoke was seen coming from the engine room. Firefighters continue to work at the scene and evacuate tourists, who waited for the arrival of the fire services on the balconies of their rooms for safety reasons.
Several ambulances, as well as patrols from the Alcudia Local Police and the Guardia Civil are at the scene. The police said around 11am that there were no injuries. But medical assistance was dispatched to the scene, treating 18 people, 16 of whom were tourists and two were workers. Only two girls, aged 13 and 8, were taken to Muro General Hospital for smoke inhalation. The rest of those affected were treated at the scene without needing to be transferred, all in a mild condition.
For safety reasons, the building has been temporarily closed and the guests, 111 adults and 57 children, are being relocated to other facilities within the same complex. The company has emphasised in a statement that the rapid intervention of its teams, together with the emergency services, allowed safety and evacuation protocols to be activated immediately, ensuring the orderly exit of all guests and employees from the building.
‘We want to convey a message of reassurance: the safety of our customers and our staff is our top priority. Firefighters and medical units remain in the area as a precautionary measure,’ they added. The company deeply regrets the inconvenience caused and is grateful for the cooperation of the guests, as well as the rapid and effective response of the emergency services. The causes of the fire are being investigated by the competent authorities.
