Palmanova is the location for the first Zel hotel. Scheduled to open on July 1, Zel is a joint venture between Meliá Hotels International and Rafael Nadal. Meliá's Innside Cala Blanca Hotel is being redesigned and renovated in creating the first of what are due to be twenty Zel hotels over the next four to five years.
As well as the tie-up between Meliá and Nadal, the Palmanova hotel will feature, as reported by Desarrollo, a Beso Beach chiringuito ('beso' means kiss). A beach club concept created by Catalan Angie López and Basque Rafa Viar, Beso Beach was launched in Formentera in 2012. Since then, Beso Beach has expanded to Ibiza, Sitges and Tulum in Mexico. As well as Mallorca, another Beso Beach is to start up in Estepona this summer.
