A Mallorcan resident has publicly denounced the situation she recently experienced at Cala Agulla, near Cala Ratjada, one of the island’s most iconic beaches, after witnessing numerous incidents of antisocial behaviour, alcohol consumption and disrespectful behaviour in the heart of the natural environment.

According to the complainant’s written account to our sister paper Ultima Hora, what was supposed to be “a peaceful day in a paradise-like setting” ended up becoming “a regrettable and frustrating experience”. The resident claims to have encountered several stag and hen parties, mainly involving British and German tourists, drinking alcohol on the beach despite it being prohibited.

She explains that numerous groups were consuming alcohol in the water with bottles and tins of beer, playing music at high volume and engaging in drunken behaviour. The situation, she states, not only caused a nuisance to those who had come to enjoy the beach in a respectful manner, but also led to the accumulation of litter and an “absolutely degrading” image of one of the natural spaces most cherished by the residents of Mallorca.

“As a resident and someone who loves this island, I find it incomprehensible and deeply frustrating to see how this kind of behaviour seems to be becoming normalised or tolerated in such sensitive public spaces,” she states in the letter. The author calls for greater protection and policing at Cala Agulla to prevent it from “becoming a scene of street drinking and anti-social behaviour”.

The complainant has also attached several photographs taken during the incident to document the situation and demonstrate that “this is not an exaggeration, but a worrying reality that deserves public attention”. She also warns that the images “barely reflect the true scale” of what happened and asserts that the situation she experienced was “far more serious than can be seen in a photograph”. She therefore invites the authorities and those responsible to visit the area to see the state of the site for themselves. And this is not the first time, two years ago Local Police were deployed to the beach to patrol certain key areas and maintain the peace and enforce the public drinking and muysic laws.
