Four beaches in Mallorca have been recognised internationally as some of the safest in the world, according to a detailed study published by House of Travel, a well-known portal specialising in safe tourism. The report assessed 70 beaches across various continents, placing the Balearics prominently for travellers seeking secure destinations for families.
The research applied a stringent methodology, focusing on six key factors that parents typically consider when selecting a beach destination: continuous lifeguard presence, crowd levels, cleanliness standards, local crime rates, documented shark activity, and ultraviolet radiation levels. This holistic appraisal provides a clear picture of the actual safety visitors can expect at each location.
The leading Balearic beach, Playa de Muro, ranked seventh globally, securing a place among the top ten safest beaches worldwide. This northern Mallorca beach is known for its shallow waters and fine sand, and now benefits from the backing of an expert safety analysis.
Following Playa de Muro, three other notable Mallorca beaches appear: El Arenal, recognised for its wide range of facilities and lively atmosphere; Es Trenc, often described as a natural gem of the Mediterranean; and Caló des Moro, a smaller, more secluded spot with excellent bathing conditions and vigilant safety measures. These four share key traits including active lifeguards, minimal crime in surrounding areas, and generally stable sea conditions.
It is noteworthy that despite high-quality beaches on Ibiza and Menorca, these islands did not feature in this specific safety ranking. The report notes that other beaches in these locations might meet the criteria, but Mallorca’s predominance reflects its well-developed safety and surveillance infrastructure at popular coastal spots.
Turning to the international front, Saadiyat Beach in Abu Dhabi claimed top position due to its exceptional ratio of lifeguards to beach area, hotel-level cleanliness, and absence of recorded criminal incidents. The study also highlighted no documented shark presence in this region, a reassuring factor for family visitors.
The top three is completed by Iztuzu Beach in Turkey, well-known for turtle nesting with strict conservation and safety rules, and Kite Beach in Dubai, which combines high-end facilities with constant supervision. Beaches from the United Kingdom, Cyprus, Montenegro, Portugal, and the United States follow these before Playa de Muro's entry at seventh place.
