The Balearic Government has confirmed that it has found "irregularities" in the operation of services on Formentor beach.
The concession holder for sunloungers and parasols is the hotel's management, as has long been the case. Now the Four Seasons Resort Mallorca at Formentor, publicity on the hotel's website has included reference to "the resort's exclusive private beach". Beaches are public domain; private use is not permitted. When attention was drawn to this private beach in the media a couple of weeks ago, the reference on the website was removed.
The government's coasts directorate says that an inspector was sent to the beach and that alleged breaches of the coasts law were noted. For now, the directorate is confining itself to explaining that notice will be sent to the hotel's management requiring it to rectify irregularities.
Complaints by beachgoers who were not guests of the hotel were sent to Pollensa Town Hall, which grants the concession to operate the services. For its part, the town hall is investigating prices being charged for services.
