A brief but intense whirlwind startled beach visitors at the Camp de Mar beach, located in the municipality of Andratx. The sudden weather event, which appeared without warning, swept through the area, lifting surfboards, towels, and parasols into the air. Despite the commotion, no injuries or significant property damage were reported by those present.
Eyewitnesses described the scene as chaotic but short-lived. One employee from a nearby shop recalled how a strong gust hit unexpectedly, catching everyone off guard.
The gust, which occurred early in the afternoon, formed a visible swirling motion that sent personal belongings soaring several metres high. Items were scattered across the beach, and some even landed in the sea. The event disrupted the otherwise calm beach atmosphere, but fortunately, no one was harmed.
One bystander emphasised how lucky it was that the beach wasn’t more crowded at the time. The sudden burst of wind could have caused more trouble had more people been in the path of the airborne objects. The rapid dispersal of the gust helped prevent further escalation.
Footage of the whirlwind was recorded by a diner at a nearby restaurant, who filmed the incident from a terrace overlooking the beach. The clip was later shared on social media, quickly gaining attention due to the unusual nature of the event and the clear view it offered of the tornado in action.
