The Soller train has announced the temporary suspension of its popular train service connecting Soller and Palma, effective from today, Monday, until February 1st. This extensive closure is necessary to facilitate ongoing maintenance and significant upgrade works across various sections of the railway line.
Furthermore, the company confirmed via its official website that the tram service, which links Soller's town centre with Puerto Soller, will also cease operations from this Monday. However, this particular interruption is scheduled to conclude just prior to the Christmas period, specifically by December 21st, ensuring the tram is fully operational for the festive season.
This annual closure is strategically timed to coincide with the end of the main tourist season in Mallorca, a period when many hotels, bars, and restaurants typically close their doors. The hiatus serves a dual purpose: not only to carry out essential upkeep on the historic railway and tram routes but also to implement crucial enhancements aimed at modernising the entire network.
Extensive Line Upgrades
During this scheduled technical shutdown, the railway operator will press ahead with the ongoing installation of concrete slab track sections, particularly across challenging mountainous terrain. This significant technical upgrade, initiated several years ago, is designed to bolster both passenger safety and overall travel comfort on the line.
Company sources have further indicated that this year's work schedule encompasses a range of critical projects. These include various internal works within several tunnels, the vital consolidation of slopes and cuttings, and comprehensive maintenance of existing infrastructure and viaducts, among other key interventions.
