Emergency vehicles and personnel were rapidly deployed on Friday evening when an Air Europa plane lost a landing gear wheel on at Palma Airport.
The plane from Madrid landed around 8.30pm, and one of the landing gear wheels came off during touchdown. It is believed that this was caused by bird strike. The aircraft was tilted on the runway, initially preventing passengers from getting off.
No injuries were reported.
Passengers included senior representatives of Mallorca's tourism industry, e.g. Javier Vich, the president of the Mallorca Hoteliers Federation, Encarna Piñero of the Piñero hotel group, and Miquel Rosselló, the Balearic Government's tourism director-general. They had all been attending a conference in Madrid.
