On Saturday morning, emergency procedures at Palma Airport were activated when the crew of a Ryanair flight from Madrid to Palma alerted air traffic control to a possible fire on board.
Around 11am, the control tower was informed that an indicator was warning of a possible fire. Priority landing was given to the plane, and once it had landed, emergency vehicles were deployed.
Firefighters carried out an inspection. They discovered that there had been no fire but that there had been a malfunction of the system that raises a fire alert; it had been a false alarm.
Other flights approaching the airport were kept in a holding pattern for a short time. Delays to operations ended up being minimal.
