Palma airport handled 33.8 million passengers last year, representing growth of 1.5% compared to 2024. According to data released by Spanish airport authority Aena, of the total number of commercial passengers, 8.9 million flew on domestic flights (-0.8%), while 24.8 million opted for international flights (+2.4%).

In terms of international traffic, the countries with the highest passenger traffic were Germany, with 9.8 million passengers (-0.8%); the United Kingdom, with 5.9 million (+3%); and Switzerland, with 1.3 million (+5.4%). Palma airport also handled 246,486 operations, including take-offs and landings, 1.4% more than in 2024.

In December alone, Son Sant Joan airport handled 1.09 million passengers, 1.5% more than in the same month in 2024. The airport handled 9,810 flights - a 2.5% increase in take-offs and landings.
Overall, the Aena Group closed the 2025 financial year with a record high of 384.8 million passengers, representing a 4.2% increase on the previous year’s figures.

The passenger count exceeded the company’s February forecast of 320 million travellers. The growth highlights Spain’s enduring popularity as a European tourism destination despite challenges facing the global airline industry, including aircraft delivery delays, labour shortages and rising operational costs that have limited capacity growth in other markets.

Madrid’s Adolfo Suarez Barajas maintained its position as Spain’s busiest airport, with Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat and Palma ranking second and third, according to the airport operator. Aena stated it is currently developing its investment plan for the 2027-2031 period to handle increasing demand.
“Traffic records from recent years are a clear indication of this need and of the situation that will arise in the coming years in terms of infrastructure,” the company said in its statement. The company did not provide an updated outlook for 2026.
