Fog banks over the interior and south of Mallorca have caused some delays at Palma airport this morn ing. As of 10 a.m. on Monday, there have been a dozen delays in departures and arrivals at Palma airport. The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has issued a fog warning for the interior and south of Mallorca with visibility of 400 metres, which will remain in effect until 10:59 a.m. on Monday.

A stable anticyclonic situation will prevail on Monday, 8 December, across most of the country, with the Balearics on yellow alert for fog and Galicia for wind and waves, according to the forecast by the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet). Palma is at risk (yellow alert) due to fog, meaning visibility will only be clear up to about 400 metres, while Lugo will be on yellow alert for wind and waves. For its part, A Coruña will be on orange alert for coastal winds from the west or south-west, which will increase from five to seven metres, and for winds from the south or south-west of 50 to 60 km/h (force 7), occasionally 61 to 72 km/h (force 8). Pontevedra will also be at significant risk (orange alert) due to coastal winds.

In general, a stable anticyclonic situation will remain in most of the country, although there will be abundant low cloud cover on the Atlantic coast, inland areas of the Cantabrian region, depressions in the north-east of the mainland and the Balearics, with a general tendency to lift and become slightly cloudy.

Cloudy or overcast skies will only prevail in the north-western third of the peninsula and in the mountainous areas of the northern Atlantic coast due to the influence of an Atlantic front that will bring light rainfall to Galicia and the western Cantabrian area, and may also affect the west of the Central System.

In the rest of the mainland and the Canary Islands, skies will be mostly clear or slightly cloudy. During the day, there will be morning fog in large areas of the Atlantic side, depressions in the northeast of the mainland and the Balearics, also possible on the southeast coast of the peninsula, and likely to be denser and more persistent in the aforementioned depressions in the interior of Catalonia and Aragon, Mallorca and parts of the southern plateau.

Maximum temperatures will rise in the east of the southern plateau, the Balearics and most of the northern third and coasts of the eastern peninsula. In general, there will be little change in the rest of the country, except for some increases in parts of southern Mallorca, northern Catalonia and the coast of Asturias, where minimum temperatures will fall slightly to moderately.

Finally, there will be moderate winds from the south and southwest in the Cantabrian Sea and the northwestern quadrant of the peninsula, with strong intervals and very strong gusts on the coast and in northern Galicia and the Cantabrian mountain range. Winds will be generally light elsewhere, with easterly winds prevailing in the south-west of the mainland and westerly winds in the rest of the country, with moderate south-westerly intervals in the Balearics and the south-eastern coast of the peninsula at the beginning of the day, and in the north-east at the end of the day. Light southerly and easterly winds in the Canary Islands.
