Three people were injured on Friday afternoon after two buses collided on the apron at Palma airport. The crash, which happened at around 4pm, caused panic among passengers as windows shattered and glass scattered across the ground.
One woman suffered head injuries and cuts to her arms after being struck by broken glass from the windows of a Swissport bus. “There were more than 30 people on the ground, and moments of panic as glass flew everywhere,” a passenger told our sister newspaper Ultima Hora.
The collision took place on the runway area of Palma airport, when a bus carrying passengers who had just landed from Athens struck another vehicle in a front-side impact while heading towards the terminal.
Emergency services, including several ambulances and officers from the Guardia Civil stationed at the airport, rushed to the scene to assist the injured. The three casualties were treated on site before being transferred for further medical attention.
Police have opened an investigation into the circumstances of the crash in an effort to establish its cause. The incident briefly disrupted ground operations at Palma, one of Spain’s busiest airports, though normal service was quickly restored.
