A rare moment of airport bliss has gone viral. A video from @mallorcaviral shows a man breezing through security at Palma airport — and, shockingly, he’s actually impressed with the new system. In the clip, he praises the smoother checks and faster processing, a refreshing change from the usual complaints, leaving viewers both surprised and delighted by his unusually positive airport experience.

In the clip posted on Instagram, the passenger can hardly hide his amazement. “I’m gobsmacked — it took me around three minutes to get through security at Palma Airport. Ever since they’ve brought in the new machines, you just put everything in and that’s it. You don’t have to worry about taking out liquids or your laptop, whatever you’ve got, it all goes straight through. Three minutes, literally. My flight isn’t for another hour and I’ve only been here five minutes and I’m nearly at the boarding gate. Incredible.

The man’s enthusiasm reflects changes made at Palma airport last year, aimed at making security checks faster and less stressful. Thanks to next-generation scanners, passengers no longer need to remove liquids or electronic devices from their hand luggage. The new equipment scans bags with greater precision, cutting down on queues and speeding up the entire process.

The video comes at a time when Palma airport is nearing the end of a sweeping refurbishment, the most significant in 25 years. Much of the work has focused on transforming Module A, which now features a spacious new retail zone alongside open, modernised passenger areas. Travellers are already seeing the benefits, from easier flows through security to expanded shopping and dining options.

Among the highlights are the launch of Europe’s largest McDonald’s and more than a dozen other new outlets, from international coffee chains to local favourites. With improved passport control, additional jet bridges and hundreds of new parking spaces, the overhaul — backed by an investment of more than 600€ million since 2022 — is reshaping Palma airport into a more efficient, passenger-friendly hub.
