There was alarm at Palma Airport on Tuesday afternoon when part of the roof in the arrivals area collapsed. Fortunately, there were no injuries.
The airports authority AENA reports that the incident occurred after some debris fell on the glass roof and broke the protective glass. "Airport officials are assessing what happened in order to take appropriate measures and determine responsibility, if necessary."
Glass and other material landed on vending machines in the baggage reclaim area. Security and airport personnel immediately began cordoning off the area and redirecting the numerous passengers who had just arrived. The noise of the collapse naturally generated enormous concern, which was dispelled after it was confirmed that no one was injured.
This incident is against the background of complaints about building work by airport employees. There have been other incidents, none of which have caused injury, an alleged lack of safety measures having been denounced over several weeks.
