In October, 3,286,052 passengers passed through Palma Son Sant Joan Airport, a record number for the month. These passengers, arriving and departing, represented a 7.3% increase over October 2022.
Palma, as is always the case during the 'summer' months, was the third busiest airport in Spain behind Madrid-Barajas (5,384,937 passengers) and Barcelona-El Prat (4,587,103). The number of flights at Palma rose 2.7% year-on-year to 24,222.
For the whole of the Aena airport network, there was a record number of passengers for October - 26.6 million, 11% more than last year and 7.8% higher than in 2019.
The passenger figures for Palma suggest that the October tourism figures, which won't be available until the start of December, continued the rise that there has been every month this year. It is expected that the total number of tourists in the Balearics in 2023 will exceed 17 million for the first time, which would be an increase of getting on for half a million over the all-time record year of 2018. The increase may end up being closer to one million.
